Adaptation to climate change |
|
Expertise in climate change adaptation has developed within C4 EcoSolutions as a result of practical experience, academic studies and project design over a ten year period. This expertise includes:
- designing projects for Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) climate change adaptation funds, particularly the Least Developed Country Fund (LDCF) and Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF);
- designing projects for the Adaptation Fund (AF);
- designing UN-REDD national programmes;
- undertaking feasibility studies for REDD+ projects in Zambia, Kenya and Botswana;
- developing NRB reports for numerous countries in Africa and Asia;
- developing adaptation rationales, baseline information, budgets, monitoring and evaluation plans, work plans, and indicators for UNDP and UNEP adaptation projects;
- developing evidence-based adaptation strategies at national as well as local levels;
- assessing climate change risks in different sectors and the vulnerabilities of local communities to climate change;
- presenting social, economic and ecological risks relating to climate change to policy-makers and decision-makers;
- facilitating dialogue between different sectors on climate change risks;
- implementing, monitoring and evaluating community-based adaptation measures; and
- catalysing the uptake of system dynamic modelling for management of climate change risks.
Adaptation to climate change consists of initiatives and measures (including policy change) implemented to reduce the vulnerability of natural and human systems to predicted climate change and variability. The implementation of adaptation measures is of critical importance especially in least developed countries characterised by low adaptive capacity.
